The extraordinary sport of swimming is one of a kind, it's cardiovascular and strengthening at the same time. The feeling of moving weightlessly through the water is indescribable. Although some can be challenged once faced with water, it takes practice to become confident. Swimming is considered an aerobic workout because the body needs a constant flow of oxygen. Although there are some circumstances where swimming can be considered an anaerobic sport, for instance, when sprinting is involved. Swimming is a great work out for larger people, who may have trouble being on their feet because the density of the human body is very similar to that of water. The water supports the body and less stress is therefore placed on joints and bones. People with arthritis or other disabilities use water to improve fitness and range of motion and to relieve pain and stiffness. The sport is often used in rehabilitation centers or for handicapped citizens to get their exercise. Reducing stress levels and creating a good posture are two great reasons to practice this sport. This is a great exercise in general for everyone to stay fit, it works all the major muscle groups, including the shoulders, back, abdominals, legs, hips, and glutes. And because water offers 12 times the resistance as air in every direction, it really helps to build strength. This sport is a great practice for people with exercise-induced asthma. The warm, humid air passes easily through their airways causing less irritation. Swimming in my opinion may be the most ideal sport, it is a perfect way to stay fit for every age, no matter what someones condition is they can still move around in the water, and stay fit. I recommend swimming to everyone, it is a great sport.
